The world lost an iconic historian and activist yesterday with the death of Howard Zinn. I can’t you how many times over the years I have pulled off the shelf his “A People’s History of the United States” when researching a particular era in American history to get his take on an event from the outsiders’ perspective. From the Civil Rights’ movement onward, Howard spoke out for the marginalized in our country. What a legacy he left. “Howard Zinn, an author, teacher and political activist whose leftist “A People’s History of the United States” became a million-selling alternative to mainstream texts and a favorite of such celebrities as Bruce Springsteen and Ben Affleck, died Wednesday. He was 87.”
